Freedom deck by Paul McDermid

Freedom deck by Paul McDermid

“I was asked to produce a series of designs for Switch Skateboards in the UK. The ‘Freedom’ board was the first design that popped into my head. The whole vibe was meant to be pretty light-hearted on this. I tried to keep the colours down to a minimum, throwing a couple of Bomb-Tree’s in for good measure too.” - Paul McDermid. Black Sheep Deck II by Jeremy ‘Civilian Asylum’ Newman

Black Sheep Deck II by Jeremy 'Civilian Asylum' Newman

Very original solution for griptape by Civilian Asylum.

Black Sheep is a skate shop in Charlotte NC that has been very supportive of my work since the beginning. I have enclosed pictures of my original design that I did not like, with several of the completed deck. The deck is set up like a puzzle, meaning I cut everything out, paint it and hope it goes back together. This is the second of 3 decks that I have done for the shop. – Jeremy Newman. Extinction Series by Todd Francis

Extinction Series by Todd Francis

Extinction Series by Todd Francis for Element Skateboards. All the decks are sold out but still great!

The Extinction series came after seeing a series of children’s books called How Do Dinosaurs…by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague. They’re these really upbeat kids books showing dinosaurs placed in different modern day social situations, where the dinosaurs are standing in for children at bedtime, during meals, etc. It got me to thinking how dinosaurs would actually react to our modern world if they got stuck living in a big city, where they’re completely unprepared to deal with dirty air, traffic and all the other crap. They’d wind up like those old people you see shuffling around with an oxygen tank hooked up to their nose, the kind of people you see and quickly look away. An awful, degraded existence where the only thing you have to look forward to is dying.
I came up with the concept and the drawings, and Matt Irving worked on the layout and colors. Its a series nobody talked about much, maybe in part because its not very “Element-y”, but I always liked it.

Feebles – a French duet of graphic designers G* and âne à ailes – created an impressive instalation inspired by skateboarding.

We were pleased to create a board for the “Break your neck” exposition in Nantes (France). This is an assembly of many fixed things: artoyz, wood, cardboard, etc.
This exposition has been organized for the preview of Carhartt’s skateboard DVD project SPEKTRA. 40 artists participated with board design, photography, etc.

Doom Vs Fifty Fifty by Richt

Doom Vs Fifty Fifty by Richt

“The story behind the board is it was created for Fifty Fifty in Bristol UK, The store is one of the best independent skate stores in the UK and has been going for over 10 years. Recently they moved premises to a new store which was formally a comic book shop on Park Street in Bristol. The Dr Doom board was a homage to that but with a twist, the idea is its Doom Vs Fifty Fifty.” – Richt. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Jart Skateboards Art Pro Series by Mitxel Gonzalez Zabalo

Jart Skateboards Art Pro Series by Mitxel Gonzalez Zabalo

Jart Skateboards asked me to create an unique design, aggressive and competitive differentiator.
The intention of this collection that was getting aggressive and making a shocking series but without using the usual resources such as skulls and other typical motifs.
Then I thought that using famous artworks and scrawled with a black marker could achieve the desired result.

Overgrowth deck by Brett ‘Onesidezero’ Wilkinson

"Overgrowth" deck by Brett 'Onesidezero' Wilkinson

This is the new masterpiece by graphic designer Brett Wilkinson aslo known as Onesidezero.

When I was a kid my local skate store only stocked decks with brand names printed in huge letters across the board so I’d buy blanks instead and paint my own graphics on.
‘Overgrowth’ is the kind of board I’d have painted at the time so wanted to make something similar this time around. I’d always use loads of colour and take the design around over the griptape, combine the board with brightly coloured wheels and trucks and drift around all day long.
