Playground skateboards by István Vasil

Playground skateboards
“This project is my diploma work. I wrote a study of 50 pages about the relationship of graphic design/arts and the action sports industry. My piece of work was inspired by a childhood memory when I was folding paper ships and putting them on water. The illustration I did is a mixture of organic and geometric shapes picturing a surreal imagery. Playground Skateboards is my imaginary company for this project. The name comes from my vision about action sports. I think that the whole scene is like a playground, full of fun and excitement”István Vasil [Read the rest of this entry...]

Riot Skateboards by Kristian Douglas

Riot Skateboards by Kristian Douglas

These decks were created as part of my final exhibition at university a few years ago so the brief was completely open. I wanted them to be colourful and busy illustrations that were light hearted with a touch of humour and violence (nothing too heavy). It gave me a chance to work on my characters and the end result was a bunch of futuristic riot police-like characters involved in battles with various creatures. They’ll be up for grabs soon along with other things through my new online shop at www.kristiandouglas.com. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Paranoid Park Deck by Pascal Cuttoli

Paranoid Park Deck by Pascal Cuttoli
“Paranoid Park” is a Portland park of ill repute. It was the “Punk” hub of the 80s & 90s. It’s also a book of Blake Nelson and a movie of Gus Van Sant about a skatepark on Portland’s east side… Artistically it was my first great work of the “Hooly World” project. “Hooly” is based on the French word “houle” (English: swell). “Hooly World” is originally a universe of sweet creatures (the Hooly or Hoolies) taken by the whirl of life, but always happy (however, I like the idea that viewers could see many others things like teddy bears swimming in noodles or ghosts…). I have just played with that universe and the “Paranoid Park” spirit in a crazy collapse with referencies to underground culture. Follow the white rabbit… – Pascal Cuttoli. Circuit deck by Jack ‘Heavyhand’ Lightfoot

Circuit deck by Jack 'Heavyhand' Lightfoot

“My work usually jumps between vectors and textures and this design was originally conceived as 2 T-shirts I featured at: http://www.redbubble.com/people/heavyhand.
Skateboards are such a fantastic medium for displaying artwork so I combined the 2 T-shirt designs and developed them. The geometric style is something I thought would make an interesting alternative design style for both T-shirts and Skateboards.”

From Above by Bryan Collins

Bryan Collins
Hand painted From Above deck by Bryan Collins. This deck is exposed in the Art Whino Gallery in Washington DC.
Occasionally I like to include a small stylized bird in my paintings. Sometimes they are just blended in with the background, sometimes they are a more important part of the whole message. I wanted to paint a skateboard deck that showcased some of these birds. The deck has been painted with acrylics, then clear coated with a protective lacquer. – Bryan Collins.
